Twin Axis Principal served as Specialty Lighting Consultant for the 300-seat and 1,000-seat theaters at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, working alongside Renzo Piano Building Workshop and Gensler to ensure the lighting design could deliver on its promise before construction began. The engagement combined technical rigor with immersive evaluation. Lighting conditions were benchmarked across four existing reference theaters to establish performance baselines. Quantitative and qualitative analysis of color reflection and luminance was produced for both venues. Fabrics and finishes were 3D scanned using a total reality capture workflow to achieve material accuracy in digital rendering that traditional methods can't match. A full-scale VR walkthrough was built to evaluate scale, curvature, audience sightlines, and spatial perception, giving the design team and owner a shared reference point for decisions about lighting, acoustics, and operational logistics before a single fabric or finish was finalized for submittal. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Data Stack: BIM | 3D Photogrammetry | HDR Photography | Illuminance/Luminance Map | Spectral Light | Colorimetry | VRScan (Materiality) | VR
